Lebanon is a small Arabic-speaking country north of Israel. Lebanon is referenced in the Bible as having amazing forests and mountains, and, in fact, their trees were used to build the Temple during Solomon’s reign. But how much do you know about the modern-day country of Lebanon and how you can be praying for them?

Religion in Lebanon

The Muslim population in Lebanon is made up of both Sunni and Shiite Muslims, and as a whole, they account for around 55-60% of the population. Around 25% of the population is made up of Roman Catholics as well as Maronites (eastern-rite Catholics). The remaining 15% is composed of Greek Orthodox, Druze, and any other small religions with only 1% of the population being made up of true Christ followers.

The imbalance of numbers between Muslims and Christians in Lebanon means that the odds of social persecution is high and not a lot of people are sharing the Gospel in this country! Even though Islam is not the official religion of Lebanon, there are requirements for elected officials to be Shiite, Sunni, or Maronite. This means that there is not as much protection for the small Christian population. Also, the struggle to have control over the country among the countless parties, including Hezbollah (Shiite terrorist group based in Lebanon), continues to disrupt the peace and economy of this small country. Lebanon's population is young, so let's pray for a revival to begin among the youth of Lebanon so that the Church can grow!
