Samya Johnson is a dynamic speaker, teacher, and author. Her Middle Eastern background and 30 years of experience in ministry to Muslims and equipping Christians bring a refreshing and authentic perspective to the Western church.
Today Samya Johnson is heavily involved in writing, training, and educating the Western church about Islam and how to reach Muslims, as well as leading the operations of Call of Love Ministries. With the Lord’s help, her ministry efforts include:
-
Perspectives on the World Christian Movement: Speaker/Teacher, lessons 4 and 9.

Dare to Explore: A 12-lesson Bible study with an accompanying 6-hour video teaching by Samya.
-
The Simple Truth, the Quran and the Bible Side-by-Side: A reference guide geared toward a younger generation with 60 topics and bullet point content.
-
The Guide to Loving Your Muslim Neighbor (published in 2019): A Practical Guide to Reach Your Muslim Friend with the Love of Jesus. Includes many helpful resources such as cultural dos and don’ts, 40 questions to ask a Muslim, and 60 questions Muslims will ask.
-
Call of Love Blog: A library of over 180 extensive resources on Islam, apologetics, and practical evangelism tips for Christians to use in reaching their Muslim neighbors with the gospel.
-
Ministry Leadership: As Call of Love’s Co-founder and COO, Samya oversees the leaders of each ministry department, edits program scripts for the Arabic TV channel, leads fundraising efforts, and acts as a spiritual leader for our team.
Samya Johnson was born into a Christian family in Beirut, Lebanon. At the age of six, in Sunday school, she opened her heart to accept Christ as Lord. During the civil war in Lebanon (1975-1990), God saved Samya Johnson from actual death three times. Samya and her family suffered severe losses in that war and many of her friends and neighbors were killed by Muslims. During her college years, God dealt with Samya’s brokenness and amazingly she was able to forgive and love the Muslims who were considered intolerable enemies in her community. Healing took place in 1989 when the Lord led her to work at an Arabic Christian radio station.
God expanded Samya Johnson’s ministry in the 1990s to include writing and presenting hundreds of Christian Arabic radio programs that impacted the Arab world. Samya met her husband Mike in Cyprus. They married in 1992 in Egypt where they lived and served as tentmakers for seven years. Samya and her family immigrated to the US in 1999. They founded Call of Love Ministries in 2001 in Ohio. In October 2017, Call of Love launched an Arabic Christian satellite channel (name not shared for security purposes) that reaches 465 million Arab Muslims around the world including hundreds of unreached Muslim people groups mostly in North Africa and the Middle East.
In 2021, after seeing the effects of isolation in the pandemic, Samya and Mike were led to start Redeemed Church for our brothers and sisters in Christ who cannot safely attend church in their own Islamic countries. After starting with only 15 converts and 4 mentors, this church has grown to over 1,100 believers and families logging on every week for our two live services. Most of these believers are ex-Muslim converts who found Christ while watching our satellite TV channel. We have a full pastoral staff and volunteer mentors who are paired with these believers so they receive one-on-one discipleship in their new faith.
Samya Johnson’s Interests:
-
Muslim women: My heart breaks whenever I think of their hopelessness without Jesus.
-
Reading: Every missionary biography. I learn from their life experiences and I’m reminded of God’s heart for the nations.
-
Stuff that shocks me: That God would choose me to serve Him despite my weaknesses and shortcomings.
-
Favorite Scripture: Psalm 91- all of it!

Ministry story
Early beginnings | Opportunity to expand our reach | A church for the churchless
Early beginnings
In 1999, the Lord brought Mike and Samya with their young daughter to the United States. They had been serving underground in the Middle East, proclaiming the gospel and supporting the underground church, and the Lord called them to continue this work in a more expansive way in the U.S..
After the devastating events of 9/11, Samya and Mike saw many Americans respond to Muslims with fear and hatred, but also there were many conflicting messages about what Islam truly is. The Lord called them to reveal the truth about Islam to Christians while also empowering them to love their Muslim friends and neighbors instead of fear them.
Call of Love Ministries continued to serve as an equipping ministry to churches across the midwestern United States. We published three books of varying depth and study on Islam, had daily spots on radio, a television program, and hosted seminars and workshops.
Our media team began producing Christian Arabic content directed towards Muslims to open their eyes to the truth and introduce them to Jesus. These were published on YouTube, but this came with drawbacks. Many Islamic governments could censor YouTube content from reaching their population, and the channel was often reported and suspended.
Opportunity to expand our reach
In 2017, the Lord brought us the opportunity to lease a satellite frequency to broadcast our programs 24/7 to the entire Arab world. The fee for us to have this frequency was $16,000 per month, and we needed it in three weeks. The Lord was faithful and brought us generous partners and supporters who made this big new endeavor possible!
From the first day, this television station has attracted many Muslims hungry for the truth, who have reached out to our contact center and accepted Christ as Lord! But we saw a lack of discipleship and fellowship available for Muslim-background believers.
A church for the churchless
Meet our Founders
In March of 2020, when the pandemic forced many churches to close their doors, our founders’ hearts were touched by the isolation we were all experiencing. They recognized this was just a glimpse into the experiences of persecuted and underground Christians around the world every day especially in Islamic countries.
Within 9 months, our team built a secure online platform to host a remote church for believers who have no church in their city or are unable to safely attend one in person. After 3 years, there are 1,100+ families and individuals attending our two weekly services, and the Lord continues to call more into this body of believers weekly.
