However, she was in the news for speaking out in support of young girls seen at a kindergarten graduation ceremony wearing hijabs. President Trump had shared the video of a Minnesota school’s ceremony where at least twelve students were wearing hijabs.

"I saw some of you wore a hijab to your graduation. I am glad you wore something meaningful and special to you and your family. I think hijabs are beautiful. Different kids wear different things that are a part of their cultures and religions, such as hijabs, kippahs, or necklaces with a cross. Insight from an expert: What should Christians know when it comes to seeing young girls wearing hijabs?

In America, the culture is focused on affirming and supporting everyone’s beliefs and ideologies. This universalism is very dangerous, because it can lead to individuals supporting an ideology they do not understand in the name of “tolerance.”

It is incorrect to compare a hijab to another student wearing a cross necklace or kippah. HIjabs are oppressive to young girls. Traditionally, Muslim girls begin wearing them when they turn 9 (in honor of Aisha, Muhammad’s favorite wife, because he consummated his marriage to her at age 9). To see young girls who are 5 or 6 years old wearing a hijab should not be celebrated because, in most cases, families who make their little girls wear a hijab are usually strict, extreme, and devout Muslims who follow Islamic teachings that oppress women, or they use their daughters to make a religious statement in Western societies.

Reports have been coming out of Nigeria for months about deadly attacks from Islamic extremists in Nigeria, persecuting and murdering Christians.

CBN reports that in February 2026, jihadists for Islamic State (IS) attacked two villages and killed 162 people. Then in May, Boko Haram, an Islamic extremist group, beheaded 7 Christians.

In June 2026, a group of Muslims locked a group of Christians in a home and shot them all, including a pastor. Despite a military station only a mile away, it was more than two hours before the Nigerian military arrived to help.

Sadly, the Western world is getting used to news coming from countries like Nigeria, where the ongoing persecution of Christians has become part of the country’s story.

News like this is buried deep in news reports and apps because it does not bring a multitude of interested followers. In addition, lack of financial or political interest in that part of the world among Westerners does not propel activists (like we saw happen for Gaza) to rise against the wrongdoers. 

We should also remember that persecution against Christians—not only in Nigeria, but in all of the Arab world, India, China, and so on—is mostly hidden; the incidents of massacre and torture are choked by a majority media that hates the name of Jesus!   

Growth of Islam in America: New mosque builds

McKinney, TX - McKinney, TX city council voted unanimously to approve the build of a new mosque. Many videos have circulated online after this meeting showing concerned citizens trying to rally against the build of the mosque.

Mooresville, North Carolina - In early August, citizens in Mooresville, NC attended a city meeting to protest the newly proposed building project of a new mosque.

Dearborn, MI - The largest mosque in America just opened in the largest Muslim population in America. The new “Islamic Center of America” is over 60,000 square feet, with educational, community, and youth rooms. It is built to hold more than 1,100 attendees.

It is key for Christ-followers to be aware of the growth of Islam in America for two main reasons.

First, Islam is an ideology that is not only religious, but political. There is no separation between government and religion for Muslims. As the Islamic influence grows, it will continue to seek stronger influence over American politics.

Second, as the Muslim population is growing in America, Christians have more opportunities to reach Muslims with the gospel! Decades ago, reaching Muslims with the love of Christ meant flying overseas to Islamic countries. But now that Muslims are here, all believers should be prepared for gospel conversations with those around them.

What Christians should know about Islam in America

One of the most important things for every Christ-follower to understand is that there is a difference between the ideology of Islam and the Muslims under it. Not all Muslims are extremists, in fact, the majority aren’t!

The ideology of Islam is dangerous, and it is often those with power in Islam who are the extremists seeking more power. Most Muslims, however, are cultural followers of a religion they were born into and they’ve never been given permission to leave.

This should spur our hearts to love Muslims and take a stand against the ideology of Islam.
