Jesus And Islam: Spiritual Warfare Blocking The Truth For Muslims

For centuries, Islam has oppressed and controlled Muslims through fear of spiritual punishment for all of eternity. There is no guaranteed salvation for Muslims, only the possibility of being favored by Allah. This heaviness weighs on their mind and spirit, but sadly, most Muslims cannot recognize the spiritual darkness surrounding them, because they do not know anything different.
Spiritual powers are at work in the world around us all the time. Ephesians 6:12 tells us that the true enemies in the world are not people, but dark spiritual forces and powers. As Christ-followers, we should recognize the work of Satan and his evil forces, but we should also be certain that we are protected from them through the power of Jesus’ blood.
What spiritual oppression do Muslims face under Islam?
Spiritual oppression and warfare for Muslims are different from the attacks that Christ-followers experience for these reasons:
Muslims have no weapons to fight Satan
Ephesians 6:10-17 lists the tools the Children of God can use to fight spiritual enemies: the Word, the Sword of the Spirit, the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, and more. These are all rooted in the love and relationship we have with the Father through Jesus Christ. Muslims have none of these, and are instead told to focus on their good deeds to try to save themselves.
Most Muslims have been subjected to Satan’s schemes and control since they were children
When a Muslim child is born, the parents whisper the confession of faith in their ears to protect them from the devil. From their first moments on this earth, fear of the devil controls the Muslims’ lives.
Muslim children are raised to be perfect, submissive followers of Allah. They must memorize the Quran by the time they are twelve years old. They are taught by their elders to be good and obedient, or else they will not gain Allah’s favor.
There are generations of spiritual bondage in Islam passed down from their family
Generationally, Muslims pass down their fears, struggles, and chains to their children. They are trapped in the lies of Islam, and they believe them so firmly that they pass them down to their children and grandchildren.
Evil practices, like folk Islam, witchcraft, and tribal superstitions, are woven into the daily lives of Muslims
The darkness and spiritual oppression of Islam is not contained to the Quran, Hadith, and mosques. Throughout a Muslim’s day, they have constant rituals and practices that keep their minds controlled by fear and darkness.
Folk Islam is present in a large majority of the global Muslim population. These practices are a combination of the Quran, Hadith, occultism, and tribal religions. Muslims believe that Allah is a distant god who won’t answer their prayers, so they take matters into their own hands and appeal to different spiritual powers.
Many Muslims dive into extremely dark spiritual practices, like witchcraft or occultism, because they are so afraid of the jinn and demons that Allah will not protect them from.
Muslims who practice Folk Islam believe that bad luck comes to people who ignore traditions and superstitions. The result is a life filled with fear and bondage to these practices. For example, there are certain days they believe they should not take a bath, that they have to bury their children’s teeth, shave a newborn baby’s hair, attend exorcism dances, and offer animal sacrifices to be spared from curses and punishments.
Satan does not want those under his lies to seek or find the truth
When the enemy has someone trapped in lies and a life of fear, he does everything in his power to keep them blind to the truth. Through Islamic teachings, Muslims are often told of the horrible punishments they will suffer if they question Allah, the Quran, or leave Islam.
Even if a Muslim is actively trying to seek the truth and learn more about Christ, they will experience many attacks from the enemy, like panic attacks, nightmares, and overwhelming fear. Many struggle to even touch or read the Bible because of how hard the enemy works to keep them trapped.
Satan manipulates Muslims through dreams and their leaders to scare them away from questioning or doubting Islam
If a Muslim is truly questioning Islam, they are told that Allah will never forgive them for leaving. Even if a Muslim has a dream of Jesus calling to them, their family and imams will tell them it is a trick of the devil to deceive them into the wrong path.
There are many stories of Muslims waking up from dreams where they tremble from fear, and they cannot breathe. Some have nightmares of the punishment they will undergo in the grave, so they are driven to try to be even more perfect and earn more of Allah’s favor. Many reach a point where they try to take their own lives, or they offer themselves as suicide bombers and martyrs, hoping to be set free from all these fears and given the promises of paradise.
What helps Muslims in their spiritual oppression?
The only thing that helps anyone fight the dark schemes of the devil is the name of Jesus Christ. Reading the Bible and praying to the true God of the Bible gives the oppressed power and freedom.
It is especially helpful for a Muslim to have Christian friends helping them in their journey to know Jesus, praying for them, and interceding for them during their spiritual battle.
When a Muslim is close to making the decision to follow Christ, the enemy will focus all of his abilities on keeping that person trapped in darkness. This Muslim is usually oppressed under a spirit of great fear, doubt, and confusion, but when they surrender their life to Christ, His light shines through and He sets them free from every chain!
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” 2 Corinthians 3:17
Muslims find spiritual freedom and peace in Jesus Christ
After an entire lifetime of oppression, fear, and bondage, Muslim converts experience their first peaceful night of sleep when they accept Christ. They joyously embrace the new life they have in Christ and are overwhelmed by the peace, joy, and hope that only Jesus Christ can give.
Spiritual freedom and peace are only found in Jesus Christ. This is why Christ-followers need to be courageous in sharing the gospel with Muslims. Muslims are truly prisoners of this darkness, and they do not know that Jesus has the key to their freedom!
If you have a Muslim friend, start praying for them today and intercede for them in their spiritual bondage. They do not know anything other than this life of fear and control, but you can introduce them to the true freedom in Christ!
Prayer for Muslims suffering spiritually
Dear Lord, I lift up my Muslim friend who is trapped in the lies of Islam. Please break through their darkness and fear. Soften their heart and grow in them a spark of courage and need to know You. Amen.
