As the weather gets warmer, many of us start to come out of our shells and a certain feeling of energy begins to fill the air. As people spend more time outside and with each other, the opportunity is greater to invest in our friendships and love those around us like Christ loves us.

5 ways you can spend time with your Muslim friend

    1. Spring church events

This may be surprising, but if your church is having a neighborhood party or other event, invite your Muslim friend! You can also invite their kids to join yours at church summer camp. Help them get signed up! You may be surprised to hear your Muslim friend accept your invitation because they know churches in general are a safe place for their kids to spend some of the summer months and to meet new friends.

    2. Find a new trail to explore.

Creating memories where both of you are in a new environment can be a bonding experience and bring out new sides to both of you! While you walk, don’t feel like you have to only talk about your faiths, but when you get the opportunity definitely don’t let it slip past you.

    3. Shop at a farmer’s market.

To make this outing even more successful, scout ahead and make sure that there will be plenty of halal-friendly vendors for meat and poultry or simply go to farmer’s markets that have vegetarian options (since those are automatically halal). Usually it won’t be hard to find one in your neighborhood, and always double check to see what local famer’s markets are around you!

    4. Try a new local restaurant or cafe.

Who knows? You might find a new favorite meeting place and a hidden gem! Or, if it is a bit of a flop, then you can have a funny bonding moment. Present them with a couple of options that you have already made sure are halal-friendly and let them ultimately decide where they are comfortable going.

    5. Find a hobby you can both enjoy

It could be golf, soccer, grilling outside, pottery, or planting. Finding a hobby to enjoy with your friend is a great way to spend more time together. It helps you both learn about each other away from the influence of their family and community. They may feel more free to ask deeper questions as they come to trust you.

An important reminder: no matter what you do to spend time with your Muslim friend, focus on how to spend your time together. Be respectful of them, kind and compassionate, but also don’t be afraid to speak truthfully about your relationship with Christ.

Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.” Proverbs 27:9

    Prayer
Dear Lord, thank you becauseI have a loving relationship with You! Thank you for the warming weather and the ability to go outside more often. Give me the wisdom to see the best ways to connect with my Muslim friend during the season. Amen.
